Training camp and preseason for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA campaign are on the horizon, and the Milwaukee Bucks are ready to hit the court.
After disappointing expectations last season, the Bucks spent the offseason retooling and filling the biggest holes in their roster. With a new and improved group, the Bucks will now resume their quest to win another NBA title. While their standard 18-man roster is full, Milwaukee can still bring in players for training camp and the preseason, giving them the opportunity to further evaluate talent.
With the way the roster is currently constructed, the Bucks wouldn’t be able to sign any more players under standard contracts, but they could potentially keep them in the G-League with the Wisconsin Herd, their affiliate. That would give NBA players looking for a return the opportunity to showcase their talent like the team has done with Glenn Robinson III and Tyreke Evans in recent years.
That said, let’s highlight 10 players the Milwaukee Bucks should sign before camp begins.
The Milwaukee Bucks recently held a workout in Las Vegas that featured many recognizable faces, one of them being Justise Winslow.
On paper, Winslow is exactly the type of player the Bucks could use. He’s incredibly versatile and can play guard, wing, and power forward, using his 6-foot-2, 220-pound frame to get by opponents and hold up defensively. Offensively, he’s never been a big scorer, but he can put the ball in the hole at times and is a good secondary facilitator.
Winslow’s biggest problem is injuries. Over his last four seasons in the NBA, he’s played in a total of 114 games, spending a lot of time on the sidelines. Bringing in a frequently injured player may seem like a puzzling move for the Milwaukee Bucks, given the number of injuries they’ve dealt with in recent years, but perhaps they could believe in Winslow’s potential and be willing to take a risk.
Last season, in 20 G-League games, Winslow showed he still has something to give on the basketball court, averaging 16.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.1 blocks per game, doing it all on the court. If he can stay healthy and translate that type of impact to the NBA level, there’s no doubt he could help a team like the Milwaukee Bucks.
Seeing what Winslow, a former teammate of Damian Lillard, brought to training camp would be a low-risk move for Milwaukee in its quest for more defensive help. Interestingly, Rickie Winslow, Justise’s father, also played for the Milwaukee Bucks in 1987-88, so at the very least, this would be a good time to come full circle.
