When it was reported that 12-year NBA veteran Evan Fournier was signing with a team overseas, it was assumed that there was a lack of interest on the open market for the former player. Detroit Pistons player.

Even though the market wasn’t very demanding for Fournier, he reportedly received an offer from an Eastern Conference franchise. It turns out he turned it down.

A two-year contract with the Washington Wizards was on the table. According to Maxime AubinThe role and location were not ideal in Fournier’s eyes.

“He was not interested in a ‘mentor role’ with young people,” Aubin made a report on X. “He added that he wanted to “compete” in Europe and “enjoy playing basketball again.”

At 31, Fournier is interested in fighting for a title. While he hoped to win in the NBA, Fournier didn’t find one. That led him to Olympiacos in Greece. Earlier this week, Fournier would have tattooed a multi-year contract with the Greek club.

The Wizards didn’t finish the 2023-24 NBA season much better than the Pistons. At the end of the regular season, Washington sat 15-67, just above the last-place Pistons. It’s no surprise that Washington showed some interest in Fournier.

Over the summer, the Wizards brought in former Pistons general manager Troy Weaver to join the front office. For the 2023-24 NBA season, Weaver agreed to a deal with the New York Knicks that included Fournier. Detroit adopted the veteran’s leadership for 29 games.

The Wizards tried to do the same thing, but without success.

Fournier leaves the NBA after playing for the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, Knicks and Pistons. Last year, he averaged four points in three games with the Knicks. When he arrived in Detroit, he was scoring seven points per game on 37% shooting.
