Athletic made its own version Among Forbes’ 40 Under 40, three members of the Charlotte Hornets made the list: general manager Jeff Peterson (35), head coach Charles Lee (39) and assistant general manager Dotun Akinwale (34).
All of these newcomers to the Hornets are tasked with turning around a franchise that is trying to transform itself into a mid-tier NBA organization. These new young players are decidedly different from the guards they are replacing at their respective positions.
Peterson and Lee were considered promising players in their roles, and the Hornets did a great job landing those sought-after candidates. Akinwale is a lesser-known name but seems to be held in high regard according to The Athletic’s article. He is a 40 under 40, after all.
It’s not the most prestigious or exclusive club to create. The NBA is getting younger, but it’s not filled with 30-somethings with high-profile titles, so there’s not a very deep pool to draw 40 people from. Still, it’s rare for the Hornets to get any positive recognition, so seeing three people named to a list of good people is a treat for the eyes.
