With Trae Young and Julius Randle out and Jalen Brunson questionable, tonight’s matchup between the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks will lack some of the usual star power – but both teams are desperate for every shorthanded victory they can achieve.
The Knicks are clinging to the No. 4 seed in the East despite seven losses in their last 10 games, but they picked up a big win against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday thanks to Donte DiVincenzo’s 28 points.
It’s been a tough visit to New York for the Hawks, who suffered two tough losses to the Brooklyn Nets last week. These setbacks have loosened Atlanta’s grip on the final play-in spot, and an 11-18 road record doesn’t inspire confidence in the team. NBA Odds for a rebound performance here.

Hawks vs. Knicks Predictions
As you would expect from a Tom Thibodeau team, the New York Knicks are fighting and trying to stay in the Top 4 in the East and weather the storm with Julius Randle and OG Anunoby still on the sidelines. To make matters worse, Jalen Brunson limped off in the opening minutes against the Cavs but seemingly avoided a serious knee injury.
Despite being out of steam, this shorthanded Knicks team will not throw in the towel. Instead, it just means more big minutes available for Josh Hart And Donte DiVincenzo.
Thibs has asked a lot of things from this pair, and I’m focusing on Hart to put up another monster stat line tonight against the Atlanta Falconswho were outplayed and outplayed in two losses to the Nets last week.
Hart played 45 minutes against the Cavs before posting an outstanding triple-double of 13 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists. That followed an 18-rebound effort in 47 minutes against the Golden State Warriors.
It is therefore above all a game of volume. Hart is a tremendous rebounder who will crash the boards on both ends of the court, and he will stay on the court for 40+ minutes barring foul trouble.
Although his scoring may be a little more erratic, I’ll take the cumulative points + rebounds for Hart tonight. He has tallied double-digit points in six straight games, including a 23-point effort against the Detroit Pistons.
The Knicks need every minute Hart can give them here, and I see that translating to Over on this prop.
My best bet: Josh Hart Over 25.5 points + rebounds (-122 at FanDuel)
Parlay Hawks vs Knicks in the same game
Since the Hart Points + Rebounds option is not available for an SGP at the time of writing, I’m trading positive odds against Hart finishing with 12 or more rebounds. A total of 37 rebounds over his last two outings highlights his ability to clean the glass.
I’m staying away from Atlanta player props after last week’s failed displays at the Barclays Center. Instead, I’m listing point prop DiVincenzo in this SGP – for some of the same reasons I expect Hart to shine.
The Hawks struggled to contain wings Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson in losses to the Nets, and DiVincenzo should have plenty of volume tonight even if Brunson is cleared to play.
He knocked down six 3-pointers en route to 28 points last time out, and he scored 23 or more points five times in February. With a big workload here, I like the Over.
I also trust the Knicks to cover this small gap. They’ve been a steady team at home, going 20-11 at MSG despite all the injuries, and there’s still a chance Brunson gets his shot tonight.
Sure, New York is just 2-8 ATS in its last 10 games, but those struggles pale in comparison to an Atlanta team that’s 19-41 ATS. the gap this season.

Spread Hawks vs Knicks and Over/Under analysis
The Hawks won their first two games after Young’s finger injury, but the debacle in Brooklyn highlighted the creativity and spacing the visitors lack without their star guard.
While Atlanta still counts Dejounte Murray and Jalen Johnson as difference makers, the Knicks are narrow favorites tonight — and that shows the hosts’ ability to get results, even with DiVincenzo, Hart and Precious Achiuwa among several players managing currently has a heavy workload. .
New York has won the last three meetings and seven of the last 10 meetings, including a 116-114 victory in mid-November. But the Knicks’ recent overall form is more troubling: They’re 3-7 in the last 10 games, hurting their chances of having home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
However, they could take a break from the schedulers here, with the Hawks having lost four of their last five games on the road.
Offensive fireworks could be few and far between with both teams going through key absences. The Knicks have hit the Under in their last six games — and it’s also been a winning ticket in seven of Atlanta’s last 10 outings.
The 215.5 point line appears to be here, but it could be increased a bit if Brunson is available, given his impact on this New York offense.
