The Denver Nuggets decided to skip their visit to the White House to focus on the regular season, and Charles Barkley took offense.
Back then, visiting the White House was the ultimate honor for sports champions. NBANFL and MLB Champions I got to spend a day with the most powerful man on Earth.
However, it has now become a tradition to see teams skip their visits, mainly for political reasons. Now the Denver Nuggets became the latest team to take this approach.
Apparently it has nothing to do with politics but with timing. Nikola Jokic and the company has all eyes on the first seed in the Western Conference, and they can’t dedicate a single day to it.
The Nuggets will not visit the White House
“Denver Nuggets prioritize No. 1 seed,” reported Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report. “They want to do everything they can to get to that spot before the playoffs. I have a story about how serious they are with this goal. The defending champions were supposed to visit the White House in late January, but the Biden administration had a scheduling conflict. In February, the visit was postponed to March 18. They face the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minnesota on March 19. The Nuggets made the difficult decision to cancel their trip to the White House to prioritize this Minnesota game as they do everything they can to earn the No. 1 seed.
Charles Barkley calls the Nuggets
As logical as it may seem, especially given the timing of this visit, this decision Didn’t go down well with Charles Barkley. The Hall of Famer took offense to teams continuing to skip this visit:
“Are they flying southwest or something?” Barkley said. “Come on man. I actually have a problem with everything that’s happened in sports over the last few years, not just now. It’s an honor and a privilege to go to the White House. It doesn’t matter who is in the White House. It is an honor and a privilege to go to the White House. You should always go. Whether you like the president or not. It’s an honor and a privilege to go to the White House and you should always go.
Ultimately, everyone is entitled to their opinion on this matter. The Nuggets have one goal and one goal only, and they won’t let anything distract them from that, not even the President of the United States of America.
