The Spurs rally failed as they lost to the Houston Rockets. Tre Jones led all players with 24 points, and Jeremy Sochan had 21 points and 8 rebounds. Victor Wembanyama notched his 9th consecutive double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Despite the loss, several highlights emerged from Tuesday night’s game.
The great thing about watching Wembanyama in action is that any seat offers a good view, even if Coach Popovich is standing in your line of vision. Unobstructed viewing is part of the Wemby NBA experience.
Jeremy Sochan had a hell of a night offensively. He was particularly aggressive from the three-point line, going 2-for-6 from downtown and also helped carry the scoring load, scoring his 21 on 9-14 shooting overall.
As the late Carl Weathers would say, “Just press it.” Just tap it. » Wembanyama on Tre Jones’ nice pass gave the ball a little kick faucet–faucet-taperoo. For his part, Jones continues to lead the Spurs offense, distributing no less than 5 dimes in the last 5 games.
Overall, the Spurs were in a generous mood Tuesday night, dishing out 30 assists in total.
Every time my 40-plus-year-old astigmatic eyes squint at Twitter and see the caption “Mamu at the Buzzer,” for a second I’m fooled into thinking it says “Manu at the Buzzer.” Then I wonder what Ginobili could do if he were a 6-foot-9, 240-pound bearded man doing a Euro-step and casually returning left-handed passes to his teammates. That being said, Sandro Mamukelashvili played a very efficient 11 minutes tonight and contributed 6 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
This incredible play looked like it was taken from “The Matrix 5: Neo Plays NBA Jam to Save the World” or if Pedro Pascal, aka Mr. Fantastic, were to play one-on-one with Victor Von Doombanyama in the upcoming “Fantastic Four.” ” movie.
Wembanyama incredulously cuts the corner and finds space around his defenders along the backline to finally throw from outside the ‘restricted area’ arc and gently lay the ball down. The combination of purposeful movement, agility, footwork and preternatural length paints a pretty picture of basketball.
Here’s another angle of this same game for you obsessive types. I’ve watched it 19 times already so you’re in good company. I’ll stop at 21 because 21 seems like a good number, a vastly underestimated, often forgotten, and very underrated number.
Blake Wesley, here, showed off his nifty jump shots and court vision, taking off for the thunderous dunk after finding an open pocket in the defense. The sophomore led the Spurs bench with 10 points.
If you missed the game because you were too busy writing the script for a Happy Gilmore/Matrix crossover movie, here are the highlights of the full game:
Next, the Spurs will travel to Austin, Texas, the live music capital of the world, for a few games, starting with the Denver Nuggets on Friday, March 15, 2024.
