The 2024 Olympics in Paris are fast approaching, and Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is confident in Canada’s chances against any other team, including Team USA.
By speaking to Sion Olojede from Complex, Gilgeous-Alexander was asked if he was worried about the way Team USA is shaping up and he responded with conviction.
“No, I’m not worried at all,” he said. “At the end of the day, they’re basketball players. Now, they may be some of the best in the world, but our team also has some of the best in the world and we don’t fear any of them.”
Gilgeous-Alexander and Team Canada beat Team USA in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, but the Olympic team will be very different. USA Basketball announced a player pool filled with All-Stars and former MVPs like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum and many more.
However, Gilgeous-Alexander doesn’t look at them any differently than he does today, as he isn’t intimidated by the bright lights of the Olympics.
“We play them all year long. They’re the same basketball players,” he said. “They’re sweating and bleeding just like us and the ball is going to tip and at the end of the night and you’re going to find out who the better team is. Whether you’re playing against the United States or against Lithuania, whether you’re playing against Spain, that’s it. comes down to. So for us, there’s no difference.
