The Dallas Mavericks faced the Utah Jazz at home on Thursday for a chance to win seven of their final eight games. The Mavericks not only dominated Utah, but established that they could be Western Conference contenders.
THE 113-97 victory against the Jazz setting the bar high for what this team can accomplish in the future. Additionally, the Mavericks moved to sixth place in the West after the Sacramento Kings lost to the Washington Wizards. If Dallas can continue to play this level of basketball to close out the season, they could find themselves out of contention.
Against Utah, Luka Doncic led the charge with 34 points, which was a relief for many fans after his horrible 6-27 shooting game against the Spurs. Doncic also recorded eight dimes and four steals in the winning effort.
Kyrie Irving also had an incredible game with only 16 points. He became a versatile leader with his seven assists and even showed off his jump shots after missing a Doncic lob attempt.

With Dallas’ massive win over the Jazz last night, they also broke a franchise record with dunks made in a single game. The previous record was shattered after the Mavs recorded 18 dunks against the Jazz, and they even earned a new nickname in the process. The Lob City Mavericks.
They also broke the record for most dunks in a game this season. The previous record was held by the Los Angeles Lakers with 17 dunks in a victory against the Jazz earlier this season. Dallas isn’t traditionally known as a team that likes to live in the paint, which is why this recent trend has surprised fans.
It seemed like everyone got a piece of the rim last night, and it was no different for Mavericks center Daniel Gafford. Gafford finished the night with 24 points and a 10-11 record from the field. His ten field goals were also from the rim.
As Dallas has started to emerge as an inside threat over the past month, this game has become the icing on the cake for those who love watching high-flying dunks. PJ Washington and Derrick Jones Jr. lived above the rim, catching any lob that came their way.
It was a record no one ever thought the Mavericks could have broken before the season started, and they are establishing themselves as a team that lives above the edge. Layup lines are no longer boring, because watching this team before the game is like watching a dunk contest.
