What there is to know
The Nuggets will play the full four quarters on Monday, but they should be done well before that. They will play at home against the Memphis Grizzlies at 9 p.m. ET at Ball Arena. The two teams each came out (but barely!) by winning against their previous opponents.
The Nuggets entered their Saturday game with two straight wins, but they came away with three. They had just enough and outscored Portland 114-111. For those watching at home, this was the closest victory the Nuggets have recorded since January 19th.
The Nuggets’ victory was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aaron Gordon, who had a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, the Grizzlies had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They bypassed San Antonio 99-97 on Friday thanks to a jump shot by Jaren Jackson Jr. with just one second left in the fourth quarter. The victory was even more dramatic because the Grizzlies were down 17 points with 7:15 left in the second quarter.
Denver has been on a roll lately, winning eight of their last nine games, improving to 50-21 this season. As for Memphis, their victory ended a three-game road drought and puts them at 24-47.
This competition is shaping up to be a blast: the Nuggets simply can’t miss this season, shooting 49.7 percent per game (they’re ranked fourth in field goal percentage). It’s a different story for the Grizzlies, as they’ve made just 43.6 percent of their shots this season. Given the Nuggets’ considerable advantage in this area, the Grizzlies will need to find a way to close that gap.
It was all rosy for the Nuggets against the Grizzlies in the teams’ last matchup in December 2023, as the team earned a 142-105 victory. Will the Nuggets repeat their success, or will the Grizzlies have a better game plan this time around? We’ll know soon enough.
