Tyronn Lue believes the Los Angeles Clippers are going through an identity crisis as their domestic struggles continue.
After his team’s 133-116 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Monday night, the Clippers head coach said the team had become too “soft.”
“Identity for us has to be about toughness,” Lue said, according to ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk. “Which means physicality, mental and physical strength, powerful attack – we can score in different ways – and we have to have a defensive mindset.
“And so right now, do we have an identity? I think so, we’re soft.”
Monday marked the fifth straight home loss for the Clippers, who now sit in fifth place in the Western Conference after holding the top spot in early February.
“When we were 26-5, we had a big identity,” Lue said. “So you can’t choose when you want to lead. You can’t choose when you want to have an identity. You can’t choose when you want to do things the right way.”
The Clippers begin a four-game road trip against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.
