Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell is one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. After an incredible rookie season with the Utah Jazz in 2018, Mitchell has continued his winning ways by making five consecutive All-Star appearances since his first appearance in 2020.
On a recent episode of the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Mitchell joined the show and shared an incredible story about his first time facing Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook.
“I was a huge Russell Westbrook fan, when he was dunkin’ on people and walking around screaming,” Mitchell said. “… I saw him on the bench, doing his dances and stuff, and I was there, warming up, and I was like, ‘I bet where he is?’ So I see him and he’s doing all this stuff, and he stops and looks at me, he stares at me and I’m like, ‘Oh shit.’”
Mitchell continued his story by saying, “We get in the game… I foul him on a fake shot and I come up to him and say, ‘Good shot.’ [He says]“Who the fuck are you?” At that point, I was like, “Okay, I bet.” It kind of put you in your place. After that, it was just love. I realized that’s just the way he was.
Mitchell said it was one of his “Welcome to the NBA” moments, and even though Westbrook put him in his place as a rookie, the two have loved each other ever since.
