The Cleveland Cavaliers Star Donovan Mitchell seems to have quite a fan base in Panama.

Mitchell uploaded a video to Instagram on Friday showing a large group of fans in Panama surrounding him with attention.

The Cavs star showed love in return, even as the safety tried to push him forward.

The guard has Panamanian roots, as his grandmother came to the United States from Panama and was the first Panamanian-American member of his family. She passed away in 2020.

Mitchell was born in New York state and played college basketball at the University of Louisville.

He spent each of his last two NBA seasons playing for the Cavaliers organization. In his second season with the team, the 2023–24 season, he helped the team win a playoff series.

In the regular season, he averaged the highest points per game of any Cavaliers player by a considerable margin, at 26.6. To put that in context, Darius Garland averaged the second highest points per game on the team, at 18.0.

Mitchell shot 46.2 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from deep in 55 regular-season games, earning his fifth career All-Star nomination and second with Cleveland.

When the 2024 NBA playoffs began, Mitchell was just as dominant from a scoring standpoint, if not more so. He saw his scoring average jump to 29.6 points per game on 47.6% shooting from the field and 35.4% from three-point range over 10 playoff games.

But he didn’t play in every Cavaliers game during the team’s playoff run. After helping his team eliminate the Orlando Magic In the first round, he missed the final two games of Cleveland’s second-round series against Jayson Tatum and Boston Celtics Due to a calf strain, the Cavaliers were eliminated in five games by the eventual NBA champions.
