The Milwaukee Bucks arguably added the benefit of free agency when they signed Gary Trent Jr. one-year contract worth the veterans’ minimum.

Still, it seems not everyone is as excited about Trent as Bucks fans. Player ratings for NBA 2K25, the latest installment in the popular video game franchise, were recently revealed, and Trent received an overall score of 79 out of 100. That puts Trent in a tie for the 38th highest rated fullback in the game. Additionally, he is tied for 81st overall in “3-point shooting attribute,” which is laughable.

With an overall rating of 79, Trent is currently tied with the likes of Alec Burks, Keyonte George, and Jaden Ivey, all players who could be argued to be better than him heading into the 2024-25 NBA season. As for his three-point shooting, he is rated 83. Andrew Nembhard, Damion Lee, Jordan McLaughlin, and Nick Smith Jr. are all ahead of him, and he is a better perimeter shooter than all of them.

Yes, Trent is coming off a down year with the Raptors, where he averaged 13.7 points and 1.1 steals compared to 17.4 points and 1.6 steals the year before, but he still hasn’t reached 79. He’s still one of the best perimeter shooters the game has to offer, shooting 39.3 percent on 6.4 attempts per game last season.

Even though it’s 80, Trent deserves to be in the lower 80s in terms of individual rating, and his outside shooting rating should be improved.

Like the Milwaukee Bucks in general, Gary Trent Jr. will have to earn the respect of the underdogs with a good performance this season. Despite a solid offseason highlighted by Trent’s signatureIt feels like the league doesn’t have much faith in the Bucks, making them an underdog. Trent and the rest of the team should only use that as fuel in their quest for the title in 2024-25.

Those grades shouldn’t drive Trent crazy on a nightly basis, but they should put him on the defensive. It wouldn’t be surprising if he bumps them up a few notches as the season goes on, as playing alongside such a talented group of players should only elevate his individual level of play.
