The Memphis Grizzlies are one of the most intriguing teams in the NBA heading into the 2024-25 season. Hit hard by injuries last year, the Grizzlies set a record for the most players used in a single season.
By making minimal changes to their roster this summer, the Grizzlies enter the upcoming season confident they have enough players to compete in the Western Conference if healthy.
On a recent episode of The Hoop Collective podcast, ESPN analyst Tim Bontemps said the Grizzlies’ trio of Ja Morant, Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. are as good as any in the NBA.
“I’m buying Memphis,” Bontemps said. “Obviously, we’ll see if Ja Morant can stay on the court. But if he can, I expect him to have a big year. Him, Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. are terribly, terribly good together. We haven’t seen them together in a minute, but when they’re together, they’re as good a trio as that is in the league.”
It’s a big statement on the trio led by Morant, but they’ve been very good when they’ve been on the pitch together.
Sharing his intrigue for Zach Edey’s selection in the 9th overall draft, Bontemps said he’s also very interested to see how it plays out.
Bontemps added: “I like the management as a whole from a talent standpoint. Having GG Jackson and Vince Williams as two guys on the wing who can play minutes for them is important. And yeah, like you said [Tim] MacMahon, there’s been a lot of talk about the playoff outlook in the West, and for all these teams that are good, I think Memphis is clearly a top-six team if their players are available and on the court.
