A year ago, the Oklahoma City Thunder had 57 wins, led by superstar point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who finished second for MVP — his second straight season with a top-five finish for that honor. Ultimately, he was beaten by Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic.

However, many crowned Gilgeous-Alexander as the rightful MVP of last year, as NBA Legend Dwayne Wadedespite the lopsided vote in favor of Jokic.

On Monday, Chet Holmgren discussed the OKC Thunder superstar and his MVP bid a year ago, while also making a figurative bet on the Thunder guard winning in the future during an episode of The Paul George Podcast.

“Too humble, man. I feel like that’s part of his aura… he’s too cool to show off,” Holmgren explained. “That was my choice.” [for MVP too] “But at the same time, I’m not going to try to say how he should have handled his MVP race, but he more than deserved to win it. But if I were a betting man, I would bet on him to win an MVP at some point.”

Former OKC Thunder MVP candidate George agreed with Holmgren that Gilgeous-Alexander deserved the MVP award a year ago and will win the honor in the future.

Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder will begin their next road trip Oct. 24 against the Denver Nuggets on TNT — a massive platform to launch an MVP campaign against last year’s winner.
