THE The New York Knicks are still looking for another center for a roster that lacks depth at the position behind Mitchell Robinson. SNY’s Ian Begley reported that New York has made an offer to former Utah Jazz center Omer Yurtseven.

“NYK made an offer to Omer. It was not something he would seriously consider,” Begley reported.

Begley added that NBA insider Marc Stein The Knicks announced that Yurtseven participated in a workout in early July. The 6-foot-4, 7-foot-10 native of Turkey played three seasons in the NBA and averaged 5.0 points and 4.6 rebounds during his career.

The Knicks are generally lacking size in the second unit as Precious Achiuwa is expected to assume the role of the team’s backup big man at just 6’4″ and Julius Randle could also play that role despite being 6’4″. Unless they feel like Jericho Sims can give them significant minutes as a backup, they’ll have to search the open market for an available big man.

Yurtseven is one of several players the Knicks have on their wish list to add at the center position, as it has been variously reported that they have expressed interest in Utah’s Walker Kessler and Houston’s Alperen Sengun, though nothing has come to fruition with either.

If they fail to land Yurtseven, it’s unclear whether they’ll continue to look to players on the market to make additions or simply use the options they have internally. Still, the Knicks will have to come up with a plan for the backup center role as training camp begins in about a month. Only time will tell how they approach that.
