With the Chicago Bulls set to start next season with Zach LaVine on their roster, it appears reports of his trade value being non-existent are correct.

A productive player when healthy, LaVine averaged 24.2 points in his seven seasons with the Bulls, but he’s entering the third year of a five-year, $215 million contract after playing just 25 games last season. While that dynamic has kept teams from trading for LaVine, it could also open the door for a team to acquire him on the cheap.

With the Golden State Warriors unwilling to part ways with Jonathan Kuminga or Brandin Podziemski in their trade talks for Paul George and Lauri Markkanen, they may be able to acquire LaVine at a price they’re willing to pay.

During a recent appearance on KNBR’s Murph & Markus Morning Show, NBA insider Marc Spears said the Warriors should take a chance on LaVine.

“I think it’s worth taking a chance on Zach LaVine,” Spears said. “… If you want to take a chance on Zach LaVine, I think they have the roster to do it. … If he can get healthy, I think he’ll put the Warriors in a different atmosphere.”

The Warriors desperately need another high-level scorer next to Steph Curry, a role LaVine can fill.

Any deal would depend on price, but if Golden State can add a scorer like LaVine without selling the coveted assets they retained in other trade talks, it could make sense.
