He wasn’t on the program, but the NBA star and Olympic gold medalist Stephen Curry appeared on the big screens at the Democratic National Convention to lend his support to Kamala Harris’ campaign on Thursday night.
Greeted by cheers from the thousands gathered at the United Center for the convention’s closing night, Curry said his heightened sense of patriotism during the recent Olympics made him realize that “Kamala Harris, as president, will bring back that unity.”
Curry, who plays for the Golden State Warriorswho said last month that he supported Harris, concluded by saying: “The Oval Office would be a perfect fit for her. In the words of Michelle Obama, do something. Go vote.”

Earlier this week, Curry’s Warriors coach Steve Kerr took the DNC stage to also support Harris.
Harris, who I visited Curry and the USA team during their pre-Olympic training camp in July, developed a friendly relationship with the Warriors star over the years, based largely on their deep connections in San Francisco and their aligned political views.
Curry spoke warmly about his relationship with Harris at a press conference ahead of Team USA’s first group stage match at the Paris Games.
“She represents the Bay Area,” Curry said. “She’s a big supporter of us, so I want to give that back to her. We’re representing our country here, and the next few months are very important for where we’re going. I hope this is a great way to do our part to continue to unite our country by showing how sports brings a lot of people together.”
“For her, right now, knowing what’s ahead, it’s all about positive energy and optimism, knowing how divided our country is right now. [I’m] “I just can’t wait to see what journey awaits him.”
