The Golden State Warriors failed to acquire a second high-profile option for Steph Curry this NBA offseason.

Multiple reports suggested that was their goal heading into the summer, but their pursuit of Paul George ended with the nine-time All-Star signing with the Philadelphia 76ers, and their pursuit of Lauri Markkanen ended with him signing a long-term extension to stay with the Utah Jazz.

That leaves the Warriors without much trade options to maximize Steph Curry’s superstar final years while still being in a good position for their post-Curry future.

Recognizing this dynamic, NBA legend Paul Pierce has discussed a trade between Giannis Antetokounmpo and Golden State.

“The only way Golden State is going to get back to where they need to get back is if they can figure out a way to get Giannis there,” Pierce told his former Boston Celtics teammate Kevin Garnett on an episode of KG Certified.

Garnett suggested that Pierce must have inside information if he was considering such a trade between Golden State and the Milwaukee Bucks, but Pierce insisted that was simply his opinion on how the Warriors can reestablish themselves as contenders.

Insisting he has no inside information on a potential deal between Antetokounmpo and Golden State, Pierce said it’s simply the only scenario he believes can revive the Warriors in Curry’s final year as a superstar.
