Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards recently sparked a debate about the differences between today’s NBA and past eras, drawing both attention and reactions from current and former players.

Edwards, 23, was asked how his generation of basketball players compared to their elders, particularly those of the 1990s. Initially saying he couldn’t comment on the previous era, Edwards didn’t hesitate to offer his opinion.

“I didn’t watch it back then, so I can’t speak to that,” Edwards said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “They say it was harder back then than it is now, but I don’t think anybody had talent back then. (Michael Jordan) was the only one that really had talent, you know what I mean? That’s why when they saw Kobe (Bryant), they were like, ‘Oh, my God.’ But now, everybody’s got talent.”

Jamal Crawford, a 20-year former NBA veteran, commented on Edwards’ comments. Los Angeles Clippers The guard acknowledged Edwards’ confidence and talent, and stressed the importance of respecting the history of the game from past eras.

In addition to his comments on generational differences in basketball, Edwards also discussed the difficulty of winning championships at a young age. “I don’t know many players who have won a championship at a young age, other than Kobe,” Edwards said. “Other than him, everybody else has spent years and years of losing to get there. I just want to keep moving forward.”

Edwards’ bold statements continue to fuel discussions about the evolution of the NBA, with Crawford’s reaction highlighting the ongoing dialogue between past and present generations of players. While some continue to focus on previous NBA generations, others tend to believe those eras have been surpassed in terms of talent. The debate will never end, with the current generation having always become that older era that draws this type of criticism.
