With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games That’s it, now we have to patiently wait for the start of the 2024-25 NBA season. And as any longtime fan knows, every new season starts with training camp. But how long will Sacramento Kings fans have to wait before training camp begins?
The Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets will be the first two teams to open training camps, with media day scheduled for September 24 and the first practice on September 25. Their training camps start a week earlier because they will be participating in the NBA Games in Abu Dhabi this season.
However, the rest of the league (including our Kings) will begin training camp with Media Day on September 30, with the first practices of training camp taking place on October 1 (in just over a month). From there, the Kings will have eight days to prepare before their first pre-season match The Kings will play their final preseason game on October 17 against the Golden State Warriors. In total, the Kings will play five preseason games.
A week later, the Kings will begin the 2024-25 regular season by hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves. we have already discussed thisThis will be a great test to start the season, as the Timberwolves went to the Western Conference Finals last year, and beating them would go a long way in proving that we belong in an ultra-competitive conference.
A lot of people don’t know this, but teams don’t practice like they used to. This isn’t one of those “the league is too soft these days” statements. It’s the truth. Teams don’t practice like they used to. The reason is that the season is way too rigorous to go full throttle all the time. You have to pick your moments if you want to go all the way.
That said, training camp is the only time teams can implement new concepts. And because it’s so short, coaching staffs around the league have to be extremely strategic in how they spend their time. Do you want to spend a lot of time working on the basics? Or do you want to ignore everything and focus on adding new techniques?
The answer to these questions depends on the team. For the Kings, we have a lot of continuity on our roster. So for the most part, we can forget the basics and work on adding new blocks to our offense and defense. However, we will also need to spend some time upgrading our flagship offseason acquisition, DeMar DeRozan.
