THE The New Orleans Pelicans made a splash this offseason when they acquired Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta HawksIt will allow the team to improve several areas in which it was weak last season, such as execution at the end of the game.

Having a playmaker of that caliber on the roster will make life easier for everyone. A standout defender, Murray fits perfectly into the identity Willie Green has built at that level as well.

However, since this trade was announced, it feels like another move is on the horizon. In their current setup, the Pelicans have a major logjam on the wing and lack depth up front.

This brings us to the biggest question hanging over the franchise heading into the 2024-25 season: What will they do with Brandon Ingram? How that situation will be resolved is the biggest question left in the opinion of Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report.

There’s a lot to talk about when it comes to Ingram. His contract situation certainly complicates things, as he’s seeking a long-term deal that the two sides have yet to reach an agreement on.

Ingram is looking for a massive contracta position that New Orleans has shown no desire to pay for. Unfortunately, it is also one of the main reasons why other NBA teams are also unwilling to acquire this talented wing.

In addition to the contract situation, there is a huge logjam on the wing. As Hughes pointed out, Willie Green will have an incredibly difficult decision to make regarding his lineups.

“Plus, New Orleans also has two players, primarily at Ingram’s position, in Trey Murphy III and Herbert Jones, who make more sense next to superstar Zion Williamson. The Pels don’t need Ingram — and don’t even want him at the asking price.

It will be THE “The story will unfold in New Orleans until Ingram re-signs, is traded or announces he will play things out on an expiring contract,” Hughes wrote.

Trey Murphy is ready to play a bigger role on this team. He should be a starter given his versatile qualities and potential. There are several levels that can be unlocked with more playing time.

Herbert Jones is one of the best defenders in the NBA and should not be taken out of the starting five, despite some clues that might be the decision to makeHe’s too important for Green’s defensive system and has also made progress on offense.

The logical move would be to trade Ingram, but that’s easier said than done. It takes two to tango in the trade market and right now, there’s no dance partner willing to go with the Pelicans.
