Duke five-star recruit Jared McCain appeared on Paul GeorgeSurprisingly, when the 9-time All-Star asked his team’s rookie about his interaction with Joel Embiid, the youngster replied: “I haven’t had any interaction with Joel, I’m a little nervous about that.” It’s been almost two months since the Sixers selected the 16th pick. Joel Embiid’s Unexpected Actions Have Fans Hating Sixers Leader
Is Joel Embiid Really a Bad Leader? React!
Jared McCain is no average player. His extraordinary 41.4% three-point shooting percentage and 14.8 points average with the Duke Blue Devils last season make him an elite college player. The 20-year-old will be a new addition to Philly’s perimeter attack. Yet Joel Embiid seemingly taking such a talented prospect lightly has left fans in distress, as one X user put it: “Not a leader.”
The process is one of the key and veteran members of the roster. So it’s important to stay in touch with the young stars to make them feel comfortable. Obviously, due to his absence, this fan felt that the Sixers icon lacked leadership qualities.
The same opinion was echoed by another person, who commented: “Yeah, I don’t like that. Be a leader, man.” Everything Joel Embiid is dealing with on the court with his injuries is understandable and it’s not easy to focus on the game with all the pain an athlete goes through, but with more experience comes more responsibility, right?
Another fan brought up the lack of communication between the veterans and younger players on the team, writing: “Wait, what?” he was selected about two months ago. Why hasn’t Jo contacted me yet? As mentioned above, the Paris Olympics campaign has been eventful for Joel Embiid. However, he could have found a way to get in touch with the young rookie, at least by phone.
The questionable accountability on his part is nothing new to fans. Even in May of this year, after the playoff elimination, the Sixers said: “James (Harden) and I, we just can’t win alone.” At first glance, Joel Embiid indirectly blamed his teammates for his accident, before admitting his faults. Even Tyrese Maxey recently admitted that The process wasn’t too talkative when he joined us.
One X user analyzed Jared McCain’s comment by posting: “Maybe he means in person? It’s worrying if he hasn’t messaged him or anything at all, but I’m guessing by interacting he hasn’t met him yet.” That may be the case since the rookie didn’t specify what type of interaction he missed with Embiid. If it wasn’t in person but via text or call, it wouldn’t be so bad.

However, the lack of any form of interaction could be a problem for Joel’s leadership. It’s also worth noting that the Sixers star may have reached out later, as the podcast on which Jared McCain confessed was recorded shortly after the draft.
Another fan called out the Sixers star’s irresponsible behavior, commenting: “I like Embiid but that’s not an excuse not to reach out to the new guys on the team, especially the young guys.” Rookies learn from stars, and the former MVP is already on his way to becoming an NBA legend. So, not having had any mentoring sessions after all this time is very concerning, isn’t it?
Hopefully the Sixers star will be able to meet Jared McCain on September 30th for the franchise’s annual Media Day. With all of this in mind, what’s your take on Joel Embiid’s action? Let us know in the comments.
