THE Portland Trail Blazers should have another high pick in 2025 NBA Projectmeaning the recruiting department will be looking at the best incoming recruits this year.
If they look at Baylor freshman point guard VJ Edgecombe, they might find shades of Shaedon Sharpe in his game, according to Bleacher Report analyst Jonathan Wasserman.
Comparison of the pros: Shaedon Sharpe/Victor Oladipo
Speed, explosiveness and shooting accuracy are the pillars of VJ Edgecombe’s scoring.
He has Sharpe’s physicality, great fluidity in open space and hang time around the basket. Edgecombe can still improve his shooting, but he’s shown the ability to make shots and show off in enough situations to have confidence in the trajectory of his game on the perimeter.
Ideally, he starts to evolve into a more combo game like Oladipo, whose athleticism was well ahead of his creation at Indiana.
Regardless, in the short term for Baylor and whichever team drafts Edgecombe, he will be a scoring guard who will give the roster speed, pressure on the rim and shooting ability in sequence.
After the 2024-25 season, Sharpe will have only one year left on his contract before entering restricted free agency.
Edgecombe could be seen as a replacement for Sharpe, or as a running mate.
Edgecombe’s athleticism will draw attention from other teams, and having to deal with him and Sharpe would force things to peter out throughout the season.
