Over the past few seasons, Luke Kennard has quietly been one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA. Over his last two years with the Memphis Grizzlies, he averaged 48.3 percent from three-point range on six attempts per game.
One would have thought Luke Kennard could have chosen a plethora of NBA teams to pair with his elite shooting abilities, but he wanted to make a difference once again with Memphis. Despite a bumpy 2023-24 season due to injuries, Kennard likes what he has built with the Grizzlies. In an interview with Damichael Cole of the Memphis Commercial AppealKennard revealed why he chose the Grizzlies.
“There are a lot of different conversations that are happening throughout this process,” Kennard told Damien Cole. “I told (Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman) I wanted to be in Memphis. This is where I want to be. I’m excited about what they’ve built here over the last few years. I just wanted to be a part of it.”
From Kennard’s comments, it seems like Memphis was the only place he wanted to be. It all came down to money and the contract, and that’s where he ended up with a one-year, $11 million deal.
“I thought I would be in Memphis,” Kennard said. “That was my mindset in every way. The team and I have expressed mutual interest in it. I’m just excited about the year we’re going to have.”
After playing just 39 games last season due to injuries, Luke Kennard should have something to prove next season. But it’s not just him, the Memphis Grizzlies should all have a huge grudge against them.
