The Pelicans re-sign Matt Ryan on a restructured one-year contract, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweets.

Ryan was lifted Friday.

Ryan, 27, played in 28 games for New Orleans in 2023-24, averaging 5.4 points and 1.4 rebounds while shooting 45.1 percent from three-point range in 13.9 minutes per game. He missed several weeks of action last season with a right calf strain and right elbow injury, which forced him off the court. surgery in December.

New Orleans claimed Ryan was released last October, inheriting the two-way contract he signed with Minnesota shortly before training camp began. He also had brief stints with the Celtics and Lakers earlier in his career.

The Pelicans converted Ryan signed a standard contract at the very end of last season, making him eligible for the playoffs. However, his three-year deal, which included a significant Ryan’s 2023-24 season-ending salary was not guaranteed for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons. Ryan’s 2024-25 salary would have become guaranteed had he remained under contract through the start of the regular season.

It is possible that the new contract will only be partially guaranteed, which would give the club more flexibility. Ryan’s previous contract for the upcoming season was a minimum wage deal.

The Pelicans now have 15 players under standard contracts and 13 players under guaranteed salaries.
