Former first-round pick Ziaire Williams was traded earlier this offseason by the Memphis Grizzlies. By landing with the Brooklyn Nets, Williams should have the opportunity to play more next season than he would have in Memphis.
A close friend of Grizzlies star Ja Morant, Williams will miss his former teammate and vice versa. While Morant and Williams are no longer teammates, the two young players still share a bond that will endure even if they play in different conferences.
In a recent interview with HoopsHypeWilliams revealed an incredible move from Morant this NBA offseason.
“He came all the way from Memphis to come to my camp,” Williams said. “As great as he is on the field, he’s 10 times better off the field.”
Asked if Morant was being portrayed as someone he wasn’t, Williams said: “Yeah, I mean, in the NBA, it’s all about recency… He was just hurt. He didn’t play last year, but they’ll remember that real quick.”
In leaving Memphis to attend Williams’ basketball camp, Morant came to support his former teammate at an offseason event that meant a lot to him. It was a special gesture from the star point guard, and one that Williams clearly appreciated.
