Bronny James was selected 55th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024 NBA draft. The son of Lakers star LeBron James, the former USC point guard will have unprecedented attention for a second-round pick.
Having already faced criticism simply for being drafted, James will face unusual attention in his rookie season and likely throughout his career. He spoke about it on a recent episode of his Underground Lounge PodcastLou Williams, a 17-year NBA veteran, pushed back against the criticism James has faced.
“Bronny was criticized for things he didn’t even talk about,” Williams said. “He said, ‘All I want is to hear my name called.’ And then we debated for two weeks whether a 55th pick was a good pick… [He] “He didn’t ask for this level of attention. And I think he’s going to be a pro. He’s got 3-4 years to develop. This kid seems like a workhorse. I think he’ll get his chance.”
Williams spent two seasons with the Lakers, so he understands what just being in the sun can do. After enjoying the best stretch of his NBA career with the LA Clippers, Williams has spent six of his 17 NBA seasons in Los Angeles.
It goes without saying that this will be a very interesting season for the Lakers.
