The 2024-25 NBA season begins in less than two months! The Portland Trail Blazers are an extremely young team with a demanding schedule The Blazers have a very busy season in the Western Conference and have a long season ahead of them. Still, this is a crucial season for the Blazers as they navigate their rebuild. Their outlook could look a lot different by the end of the season.
By The AthleticJohn HollingerChauncey Billups is one of three coaches on the hot seat heading into next season, along with Taylor Jenkins of the Memphis Grizzlies and Willie Green of the New Orleans Pelicans. This makes more sense for the Grizzlies and Pelicans’ respective situations, as both are playoff contenders. Still, it seems unusual for a team like the Blazers, who are actively trying to lose games in an attempt to land a top pick in the 2025 draft, to have a coach on the hot seat.
Sean Highkin of the Rose Garden Report The Blazers and Billups are headed toward a possible “mutual parting” at the end of the season. Billups seems more inclined to coach a team that wants to be competitive right away, which is understandable given how different the Blazers’ roster was with Damian Lillard and company when Billups came aboard.
It remains to be seen who the potential head coaching candidates are for the Blazers next season, but it seems likely that someone other than Billups will lead the way.
