The New York Knicks are trying to catch the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference after winning the NBA Finals this summer.
And now the Celtics have decided to continue their move that propels them a notch higher on the ladder.
According to Shams Charania, an informant of The AthleticThe Celtics have signed veteran guard Lonnie Walker IV to an Exhibit 10 contract.
Exhibit 10 rules dictate that he will only receive guaranteed money for training camp, not the regular season. However, with him now in the building, the Celtics could look to integrate him into the team throughout the year.
Walker averaged 9.7 points per game and shot 38.4 percent from 3-point range in 58 appearances for the Brooklyn Nets last season.
With Walker on the roster, he becomes the Celtics’ first veteran addition this offseason. The only other player on the roster who hasn’t won a championship is Creighton rookie point guard Baylor Scheierman.
Veteran forward Oshae Brissett is the only player from last year’s team not currently on the roster. Scheierman is expected to take his spot on the roster, but it’s possible Walker could leave and take someone else’s spot.
The Celtics could benefit from Walker’s three-point shooting, but given that Boston easily won the playoffs last season, they don’t have much to improve on to begin with. Walker just gives them some insurance in case an injury occurs or someone struggles.
The Celtics have set the bar high for the Knicks and the rest of the NBA, and every team will be looking to reach the level they are at in hopes of not letting them become the first defending champion since the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018.
