THE Sacramento Kings have been making headlines during the 2024 offseason, so their main storyline heading into training camp is pretty obvious.
Bleacher Report Zach Buckley revealed his thoughts on the Kings’ biggest story: DeMar DeRozan’s fit in Sacramento.
[The acquisition of DeRozan] This should be a big boost to their morale and scoring output, although there are some spacing issues around DeRozan, Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox as they all do their best work as inside-the-arc scorers.

DeRozan is considered one of the most prolific offensive players of his generation, with a Hall of Fame-worthy mid-range game. The six-time All-Star is a 29.6 percent three-point shooter throughout his career, but has made his living as an isolation scorer and improved playmaker.
While Fox and Sabonis aren’t known for their long-range shooting either, the trio will undoubtedly be dangerous. Fox is an improved jump shooter, hitting 36.9 percent of his field goal attempts from long range last season. Sabonis’ outside shooting is virtually nonexistent, but his work as a playmaker and interior scorer doesn’t go unnoticed.
It’s tempting to bet on talent anyway, and it helps that all three players are willing and capable passers. This could be one of the best trios of ball-moving players, and it should generally be surrounded by reliable shooters who can catch and shoot. That could help the Kings jump-start their offense.
– Zach Buckley, B/R
The Kings have built a well-rounded team heading into the 2024-25 season, even outside of the All-Star trio. Surrounding Fox, DeRozan and Sabonis with players like Malik Monk, Keon Ellis, Kevin Huerter and Keegan Murray should create a team that other franchises fear when they see Sacramento on their schedule.
It’s fair to question DeRozan’s fit in the Kings’ lineup, but their defensive improvements toward the end of the 2023-24 season are a good sign that Sacramento is preparing to be dangerous on both sides of the ball.
