Brooklyn Nets Before Ziaire Williams gets a second chance to prove why he was the 10th overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft out of Stanford University. Williams showed some signs of his talent with the Memphis Grizzliesbut he finds himself in Brooklyn looking to show more of what he’s capable of.
“Definitely, first and foremost, my body. They say availability is the best ability. I had a nasty little back injury last year, so I’ve been in the weight room every day, getting treatment, really trying to prioritize my body,” Williams said in an interview with HoopsHype Cyro Asseo of Choch on what aspect of his game he’s focused on the most this summer. Williams has dealt with some unfortunate injuries in his first three NBA seasons, but he’s looking to prove he can be available when needed.
“And then on the court, I’m just doing all the simple things, man — fine-tuning my shot, reading close-outs, trying to be good at two or three things instead of trying to be good at a bunch of different things,” Williams said. “Me and the rest of my team put together a great plan this summer, and I’ve definitely improved a lot. I can’t wait to get on the main stage and show off the work I’ve been doing in the dark.”
Williams arrived at the Nets in July as a exchange Grizzlies trade with 2030 second-round pick to Brooklyn in exchange for forward Mamadi Diakite and the draft rights to Serbian point guard Nemanja Dangubic. As for Williams, he has played in just 150 of 246 possible games (61.0 percent), so if he’s looking to maximize his opportunities with a rebuilding Nets franchise, he’ll need to find a way to stay on the court to take advantage of those minutes. It appears he’s up for that challenge.
