THE The Los Angeles Clippers opened their brand new Intuit Dome last month, but will not host its first basketball game until the preseason in October. The state-of-the-art stadium is meant to be a haven for basketball fans and in particular Clippers fanswhich The Los Angeles Lakers legend James Worthy is happy to see.
James Worthy Talks Steve Baller and Intuit Dome
Back when the Lakers were on Showtime, James Worthy and his team played basketball at the famed Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California. The Lakers eventually moved to the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, but they never forgot that their roots were deep in Inglewood.
25 years later, Steve Ballmer and his LA Clippers have built a brand new stadium in the heart of Inglewood, where they will now play basketball.
The basketball Hall of Famer and Lakers legend contributes annually to the Harold and Carole Pump Foundation, which raises money for cancer research. The foundation held a gala last month, and Worthy was once again on hand to show his support.
Worthy spoke with ClutchPoints at the gala, where he congratulated Steve Ballmer and the LA Clippers on the milestone of opening a brand new arena.

“I am happy to see that their owner, [Steve] Ballmer has been very interested in the city of Inglewood, creating jobs and housing,” Worthy told ClutchPoints. “He’s got a big arena there. I mean, it’s a big arena. He’s a tech guy, and right next to SoFi, so the Clippers finally have a home they can call their own. They don’t have to look up and see the Lakers championship banners, even though they covered them up, so it’s nice that they have that.
The LA Clippers officially broke ground on the new Intuit Dome on September 17, 2021. Just under three years later, their new home is ready for the 2024-25 NBA regular season, complete with a stunning Halo backboard, in-seat chargers, and more. many other amazing features.
“I remember when they were in San Diego and they were coming from L.A., so it’s cool to see,” Worthy added. “It’s a really good organization, I know a lot of the people that work there, not the players and stuff, but the vendors and the tickets and so yeah, I think they do a great job.”

This isn’t the first time Worthy has spoken highly of the Clippers and Steve Ballmer. In 2020, James Worthy also spoke to ClutchPoints, where he expressed his admiration for Ballmer for trying to do what many didn’t think he would do by building a Clippers arena in Los Angeles.
“I love Steve, you know.” James Worthy told ClutchPoints “He’s a good guy. He’s going to build a stadium, try to get closer to our fans there. It’s going to be tough. But you know, I want to go ahead and do what’s right for the city. If it can help Inglewood, if it can bring more jobs and all that kind of stuff, I’m all for it.”
James Worthy played 12 years in the NBA, all with the Los Angeles Lakers. Along with Magic Johnson, he led the Showtime Lakers to three championships during that span.
The LA Clippers are scheduled to play their regular-season home opener at the Intuit Dome on October 23 against the Phoenix Suns.
