PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns are gearing up for a new season — one that represents another chance to rekindle a fan base that lost much of its passion last season.
Suns star Kevin Durant and rookie F Ryan Dunn went through drills, played one-on-one games and more during a practice session yesterday.

Dunn, 21, is a University of Virginia product who was drafted by the Denver Nuggets and then traded to Phoenix on draft night.
Considered by many to be the top defensive prospect in the draft, Dunn’s perceived lack of offensive refinement – led by a 23.5% three-point shooting percentage over his two-season college career – led to a considerable drop in the draft.
He eventually found a home in Phoenix, which rated him highly on its draft board.
Dunn’s lack of refinement is nonexistent here – his baseline shot looks fluid and consistent. He shoots the ball with confidence. He has impressive fast breaks against NBA-caliber defenders.
It must always be taken into account that performances against NBA defensive units are completely different compared to one-on-one situations, but it is encouraging to see the new rookie playing with much more confidence than he displayed in the Suns’ Summer League game just two months ago.
Durant’s mentorship role is also notable. There’s a sense that the now-incumbent Sun is more committed than ever to the franchise’s vision — and his guidance, along with that of coach Mike Budenholzer, could be critical to Dunn’s long-term growth.
It remains to be seen whether Dunn can make a real impact as a rookie — but if so, watch Phoenix in April 2025.
