As Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks continues his scouting efforts during the 2024 NBL Blitz, the organization should keep a close eye on Rocco Zikarsky, a top prospect for the 2025 NBA Draft. Zikarsky, a 6-foot-4 center from Australia, hasn’t seen much in the way of minutes during the Brisbane Bullets’ preseason, but Zikarsky is averaging 9.2 points and 6.2 rebounds in five games.
Zikarsky’s physical attributes are immediately eye-catching. At 6’3”, he possesses a rare combination of size and agility. His athletic heritage (the son of an Olympic swimmer and an Australian Iron Woman champion) contributes to his exceptional mobility and endurance. This makes him a formidable presence in the paint, both offensively and defensively.
One of Zikarsky’s most notable qualities is his defensive ability. He excels at protecting the basket, using his size and wingspan to block shots and alter opponents’ attempts around the basket. His ability to move laterally and cover the court quickly also allows him to defend multiple positions, making him a versatile defender.
Offensively, Zikarsky is a work in progress. However, he shows a lot of promise as an effective basket runner, especially in pick-and-roll situations. His size alone allows him to finish strong at the basket, and with further development, he could become a reliable scoring option.
Zikarksy needs to work on extending his reach. He doesn’t shoot outside the paint, but if his shot develops, he could become a Kristaps Porzingis-type player given his mobility and size.
The Nets should pay more attention to Zikarsky, as he could potentially be their pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Brooklyn has four potential first-round picks in June, but Zikarsky could fall anywhere, as he is ranked 20th in ESPN’s latest mock draft. Marks and company will have a better idea of Zikarsky’s abilities, but at just 18 years old, he is a prospect to keep a close eye on.
