Paolo Banchero isn’t bothered by the lack of eyes on the Orlando Magic this season.
The Magic forward said Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks that while he acknowledges the team hasn’t received enough attention, it’s something he’s become accustomed to since his teenage years.
“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel overlooked, but I don’t look at it as a bad thing because I feel like it’s been the story of my life, basketball-wise. ball,” Banchero said. “I’ve always been a pretty highly touted player, but since ninth grade it’s been the same story. I got screenshots from 2018, ’19, or articles that were written where they said I I was this, I was that. I wasn’t going to be that or I was only going to be that, I couldn’t get to that.
“It’s always been there and so I’ve gotten used to working in the shadows and then popping up at the right time. So I feel like that’s what’s happening right now for me and the team . … It’s like, whatever, we don’t get the attention, the televised games, whatever you want to say. But we’re the fourth seed, and we’ll be on TV in the playoffs playoffs, so eventually, this will come to light.
The Magic enter Friday night’s game against the New York Knicks, fourth in the Eastern Conference (37-26) and on a five-game winning streak.
Banchero, who is in his second NBA season, is averaging 22.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 61 games.
