The reigning NBA champion Boston Celtics haven’t really changed much all summer. There was no reason to make major changes after winning 64 games and crushing their opponents in the NBA Playoffs.

But even teams with incredible depth want to add more as the season approaches.

Boston did just that on Wednesday, signing former first-round pick Lonnie Walker. According to ESPN’s Adrian WojnarowskiIt’s a one-year contract for the guard.

This is a nice acquisition for the defending champions. Walker, 25, was selected in the first round by the San Antonio Spurs from Miami (F) in 2018.

He spent four seasons in San Antonio, averaging 9.4 points and shooting just 41 percent from the field. But the point guard has since bounced back.

Last season with the Brooklyn Nets was Walker’s best, averaging 9.7 points and shooting 38 percent from three-point range.

Walker will occupy one of the last spots on Boston’s roster, supporting both Derrick White at the No. 2 and reigning NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown at the No. 3.
