PHOENIX — Bradley Beal is entering his second season as a member of the Phoenix Suns — and he has a chance to prove himself more than anyone else on the team — even Kevin Durant.

Beal has been widely considered a top candidate for the NBA’s “worst” contract since he signed a four-year max deal that included a no-trade clause.

The No. 2 guard had a rough first season in the Valley that confirmed many preconceived notions, as he dipped below 20 PPG for the first time since the 2015-16 season and fell flat in the playoffs — but that’s without considering the context.

Beal suffered typical “freak” injuries at inopportune times — he was never really able to build solid continuity with the core. He also made more sacrifices than anyone else on the team — as multiple teammates and coaches have confirmed.

Despite this, he had one of his most efficient seasons while continuing to be very good as a playmaker.

The 2023-24 season has been largely forgotten — and Beal’s days as a max-level player may be behind him — but the evidence indicates the combo guard will be the franchise’s X-factor this upcoming season.

He proved he could play multiple roles on offense, invest on defense and be one of the few players to frequently put pressure on the basket last season.

Now it’s time to build on that foundation, embrace Mike Budenholzer’s offensive system, and continue to make the necessary sacrifices for the good of the team.
