NBA Trade Rumors: The Denver Nuggets could already be looking for trade deadline targets to bolster their backcourt.
The Denver Nuggets will enter the 2024-25 NBA season with hopes of re-emerging as a title contender. However, that will be easier said than done after losing a key piece of their core. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope signed with the Orlando Magic in free agency this summer, leaving the Nuggets with a huge void at the starting guard position.
While it’s not expected that the Nuggets will consider a trade to help fill that void before the season begins, making a move at the trade deadline could be a route Denver ends up taking.
According to a recent report, Vasilije Micic could already be a name on Denver’s trade radar. During the second half of last season, Micic played well for the Charlotte Hornets (averaging 11 points on 44 percent shooting). He then had a strong showing with Serbia at the Olympics.

With the loss of KCP, it’s safe to say that the biggest question for Denver heading into the new season will be who will fill that vacant spot. While KCP wasn’t known as a player who got a lot of credit for the Nuggets’ success, his absence will be felt greatly by the team this season.
If the Nuggets are going to be a title contender again this season, you have to imagine someone will have to step into that role effectively. While the Nuggets have a few candidates on their roster who could fill the void left by KCP, it’s far from a guarantee at this point.
As of now, Christian Braun is being touted as the Nuggets’ new starting guard, with Julian Strawther as his backup. Braun, more than Strawther, has much more playing experience, but expecting Braun to be the full-time starter for an entire season for a title contender may be a bit unrealistic.
That’s why it would make sense for the Nuggets to explore the trade market, especially if there’s a sense of trouble at the position. Could the Nuggets make a trade for Micic? Sure, but there’s no doubt they’ll have to move money to make it work. There’s no doubt they’ll try to make that happen, but it could be a risky bet. At the very least, this report suggests the Nuggets will be open to the idea of adding a player before the trade deadline.
It remains to be seen whether they will find the right target, one that makes sense both financially and on the ground.
