The Washington Wizards have selected three players in the first round of the 2024 NBA draft. The trio of Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington and Kyshawn George will join 2023 first-round pick Bilal Coulibaly to form Washington’s young core.

Wizards coach Brian Keefe is excited to work with this group. Keefe said his young players have a clear first goal.

“The first thing is to develop good habits,” Keefe said. “I said the same thing last year with Bilal: you have to teach them good work habits and how to work in this league. The only way you’re going to get better is to have consistent work habits and a consistent approach to everything you do. That’s going to be our focus for these guys.”

Regarding Sarr, who was the second overall pick, Keefe said the Wizards wanted to see him with the ball a lot.

“He has the ability to be a three-level scorer at some point. But one thing that stood out to us was his ability to see the play and read the play. He’s a good passer, so we want him to have the ball in his hands to explore those opportunities so he can make plays for himself and others,” Keefe said of the 7-foot-4.

As for Carrington, the Wizards see him as capable of playing many different roles.

“We’re going to play a little bit positionless, so a lot of guys are going to be managing and making decisions. We see him as a guard that can make plays for himself and others. You can see he’s a multi-talented guy, a good rebounder that can push in transition. We’ll see him managing the game with and without the ball,” Keefe said of Carrington.
