One of the Milwaukee Bucks’ goals this offseason was to add more defensive disruptors, which they did by signing Delon Wright.

The point guard is known for being a solid defender, using his size and length to make life as difficult as possible for his opponents on every possession. One of the ways he does this is by staying active and never giving up defensively, constantly forcing interceptions. He has recently been praised for his efforts in this defensive area of the floor.

NBA2K, the popular video game, released in-game ratings for the major statistical leaders, and Wright scored 96 out of 100 in steals, tied with Memphis guard Marcus Smart and Atlanta’s Dyson Daniels. Above them were Portland’s Matisse Thybulle and OKC’s Alex Caruso. Not bad company to be in on defense, certainly.

Over the course of his career, Wright has averaged 1.2 steals per game. In total, he has 620 steals, which ranks 17th among guards over that span. That may not seem like an extraordinary number, but consider that Wright has averaged just 20.7 minutes per game over his career, while all but four players ahead of him are All-Stars playing big minutes. He’s making the most of his time on the court.

When he forces a steal, it helps generate more opportunities in transition, which gives the team more opportunities to score points. Given that they ranked 26th in steals per game last year, this was a major weakness for the Bucks. Wright alone won’t catapult them into the top 10, but he will certainly help them overtake several NBA teams.

Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer reported that become a more versatile team this offseason That was one of Milwaukee’s goals, and a player like Wright will help them tremendously. Defensively, his 6’5″ frame will allow him to hold his own against guards and forwards, making him a key player in switching situations, something the team will likely use often.

Hopefully Wright stolen the show with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024-25.
