One of the most unexpected conflicts in NBA sports today is not between NBA players, but between Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles and the league, specifically Anthony Edwards. Lyles called out the NBA’s hypocrisy in calling its champions world champions.

While the conflict has been entertaining to watch from the outside, the Denver Nuggets and NBA legend Carmelo Anthony want it to end. But first, he explained to Lyles why NBA champions call themselves world champions.

“The reason we call ourselves world champions here, it’s what I said earlier, it’s our game. The world comes to us to get the game,” Carmelo told the official website. Brooklyn 7pm Podcast. “So yeah, we’re the world champions. Semantics, I get it… But my point is, why do you keep taking shots at the NBA? If you want to take shots at the fact that you don’t have a league for yourself. Take shots at the fact that they don’t invest money in the sport… I’d rather you say, ‘Yo, we need more attention on the American Athletic Association,’ whatever it is.”

When it comes to Anthony Edwards, Carmelo Anthony wants Noah Lyles to leave him alone. He wants Lyles to stop focusing his anger on Anthony Edwards and start focusing his anger on the athletic association for not providing him enough. Lyles’ anger comes from a place of anger and frustration, so it’s very understandable.

“Anthony Edwards is a completely different brand, leave that [expletive] “Alone, focus on yourself, champ,” Carmelo said. “I want to support you, I’m going to continue to support you, we’re going to support you. But I wouldn’t be your big buddy if I didn’t give you that knowledge. Let them play basketball.” [expletive] “Basketball does it in a whole different way. We want to support athletics to do it… But don’t burn those bridges, champ, because once you burn those bridges, it’s hard to recover.”

As of now, the conflict between Noah Lyles and Anthony Edwards has yet to end. Carmelo may want it to end, but that will only happen when both parties are ready to put an end to it.
