THE Boston Celtics have been offered an easy team in the NBA CupJoe Mazzulla’s team will face the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards in the first round of the tournament, with all games taking place in December. Given Boston’s talent level and the way they dominated the regular season last season, they can be expected to easily advance from their group.

It seems that Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report would agree with that assessment. He also predicted that Boston would secure first place in its NBA Cup group.

“The Boston Celtics are an experienced team coming off an NBA title. Seeing them take it easy in the season tournament wouldn’t be all that surprising,” Bailey wrote. “But Boston is also a juggernaut with a three-point attack that can beat anyone, even if one or two Celtics are out. The ‘well-oiled machine’ cliché doesn’t apply to a team like Boston is right now.”

On paper, the Cavaliers will be the Celtics’ biggest test in the group stage.

Kenny Atkinson’s team faced Boston in the Eastern Conference semifinals and may feel like they have something to prove against the reigning NBA champions. The Bulls and Wizards are both rebuilding teams, but they shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Given Boston’s task is to repeat its championship success next seasonIt will be interesting to see how seriously they take the NBA Cup and their participation in it. However, if they want to be in contention for a title this season, they are off to one of the best starts one could ask for.
