For the past two seasons, the Chicago Bulls have been without their primary point guard, Lonzo Ball. Now that Ball is set to return, it appears the Bulls have found a new point guard in Josh Giddey.
According to a report by Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-TimesThe Bulls have decided that Josh Giddey will be the team’s primary point guard moving forward. Here’s the exact excerpt from Cowley’s article.
“A team source reiterated that the Bulls were all in on Giddey as their primary point guard from the moment they acquired him in the Alex Caruso trade with the Thunder,” Cowley said“They see him as a Lonzo Ball-light — a playmaker with positional size that allows him to not only grab rebounds, but also attack opposing defenses with his ability to quickly move the ball up the court by guarding his own dribble or delivering otherworldly outlet passes.”
Lonzo Ball hasn’t played a single game for the Chicago Bulls since January 2022. At this point, even if he were to return at the start of the season, it would take him some time to be able to handle that level of responsibility.
In contrast, in the 2023 season, Giddey averaged 16.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists on 48 shots, 33 assists and 73 assists. Giddey’s responsibility and playing time were reduced last season with the Thunder, and now he has the perfect opportunity to get it all back with the Chicago Bulls.
