The Chicago Bulls are in the midst of a rebuild after several seasons of hovering around the Eastern Conference play-in picture. In agreeing to a trade that sent DeMar DeRozan to the Sacramento Kings, the Bulls separated the duo of him and Zach LaVine.
While LaVine has yet to be traded, Chicago is hoping the two-time All-Star can reestablish some level of trade value at the start of next season. In addition to moving on from their star duo, the Bulls also traded Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Josh Giddey, a move that many felt Chicago could have gotten a better return for.
In addition to not getting compensation for Caruso, Chicago also let Andre Drummond enter free agency instead of trading him. In a recent article by ESPN’s Jamal CollierIt was revealed that Chicago could have received draft compensation for both players.
“They retained Drummond, who sources said could have gotten multiple second-round picks from Philadelphia (where Drummond ended up signing this summer), and Caruso, who had been interested in a package from Golden State that included draft compensation, sources said.”
While Chicago had a preference for Giddey and selected him over other potential offers, it’s hard to justify losing Drummond for nothing. Collier said the Bulls could have received multiple second-round picks for Drummond, but he opted to leave in free agency.
