THE The Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t made any major roster changes this offseason, leading some to wonder if they will make significant progress during the 2024-25 NBA campaign.

However, just because the Cavaliers didn’t make any changes to their roster this summer doesn’t mean they can’t make some midseason adjustments, and Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report has concocted a massive trade idea that would reshape the Cleveland roster as we know it.

Bailey created a three-team trade proposal involving the Cavs, the San Antonio Spurs and the The New Orleans Pelicans.

In the deal, the Cavaliers would lose Jarrett Allen, Caris LeVert and Dean Wade, all three crucial pieces of their current rotation. They would then receive Keldon Johnson, Zach Collins, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and a top-five protected first-round pick in 2029 from the Pelicans.

It’s worth noting that Allen can’t be traded until late January after signing his contract extension earlier in the offseason, so this hypothetical deal couldn’t happen until the winter.

Johnson is clearly the most NBA-ready player Cleveland could get. After averaging 22 points per game two years ago, the 24-year-old took a pretty significant step back last season, converting to a backup role and scoring 15.7 points per game on 45.4/34.6/79.2 shooting splits.

So it’s debatable whether or not the Cavs would trade Allen β€” who Donovan Mitchell really likes β€” for that kind of return.

Obviously the first-round pick is tempting, but it’s so far down the line, and at this point Mitchell could already be playing elsewhere.

Collins might bring some floor space up front, but he’s a 33.6 percent three-point shooter, so he’s not exactly Kevin Love.

While I understand the idea of the Cavaliers trying to reshape their roster, this trade doesn’t seem to be much of a change to improve Cleveland. Not in the short term, anyway.
