What there is to know

After playing yesterday, the Brooklyn Nets will hit the road to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers at 7 p.m. ET on March 10 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Coming off a loss in a game the Nets were expected to win, they now face the toughest task of proving themselves against unfavorable odds.

Defenses reigned supreme when the Nets and Hornets played Saturday, rewarding bettors who took the risk on the season-low 207 points. Brooklyn fell 110-99 to the Hornets. The Nets took an early lead (up by 12 with 4:16 left in the first quarter), but unfortunately, they were unable to maintain that momentum.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Cavaliers finally got the result they were hoping for on Friday. They won against Minnesota by a score of 113-104.

Jarrett Allen was simply spectacular: he had a double-double with 33 points and 18 rebounds. In fact, it’s the most points he’s scored all season. Another player who made the difference was Darius Garland, who scored 34 points and eight assists.

Brooklyn dropped its record to 25-39 with the loss, which was its third straight on the road. This difficult period could be blamed on the team’s poor offensive performance during this period, as they averaged only 97.3 points per game. As for Cleveland, their victory improved their record to 41-22.

Sunday’s game is one where the number of possessions will likely be a big factor: the Nets haven’t given up the ball easily this season, averaging just 12 turnovers per game. However, it’s not like the Cavaliers struggled in that department as they averaged just 12.7 turnovers per game. Given these competing forces, it will be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

While only the Nets took care of their fans the last time they played, neither team managed to cover. Looking ahead, the Cavaliers are the favorites as experts expect them to win by 7.5 points. Oddsmakers picking Brooklyn against the spread have some confidence (to put it mildly), as the team is sitting on a four-game losing streak when playing as a road underdog.

Cleveland is a heavy 7.5 point favorite against Brooklyn, according to the latest NBA Odds.

The punters were perfectly in tune with the betting community on this point, as the game opened with a 7.5 point spread and stayed there.
