What there is to know
The Cavaliers are 2-8 against the Knicks since December 2022 but they will have the opportunity to close the gap a little on Sunday. The Cleveland Cavaliers will play at home against the New York Knicks at 7 p.m. ET at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The Knicks suffered a loss in their last game and will look to turn things around against the Cavaliers, who are coming off a win.
Winning is just a little easier when you drain eight more threes than your opponent, a fact the Cavaliers proved Friday. They came away with a 110-100 victory over Detroit. The Cavaliers pushed the score to 91-70 late in the third, a deficit that the Pistons reduced but never really recovered from.
Evan Mobley was the offensive star of the game, recording a double-double with 22 points and 17 rebounds.
Meanwhile, New York came up short against the Warriors on Thursday and lost 110-99. The Knicks have now taken an “L” in consecutive games.
Cleveland has been performing well recently as they have won three of their last four meetings, which has resulted in a nice improvement to their 39-20 record this season. As for New York, they’ve been on a rocky road recently after losing seven of their last nine games, which took a major dent in their 35-25 record this season.
In this competition, the number of possessions will likely be a big factor: the Cavaliers haven’t given up the ball easily this season, averaging just 12.8 turnovers per game. However, it’s not like the Knicks struggled in this department as they averaged just 12.4 turnovers per game. Given these competing forces, it will be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Going forward, the Cavaliers are the favorites as experts expect them to win by 6.5 points. This contest will be their 16th in a row as favorites (so far in that stretch, they are 5-10 ATS).
