It’s been two years since Collin Sexton was traded to the Utah Jazz in the blockbuster trade centered around Donovan Mitchell. It was an up-and-down first season for the former lottery pick, but Sexton emerged in Year 2 with arguably his best year as a pro.

So what does Year 3 hold for Sexton and the rebuilding Jazz? There’s been a lot of talk about how Utah’s third year of rebuilding failed. However, letting off steam has never been part of Sexton’s game, and he thinks the Jazz should take a leaf out of Utah’s book. Minnesota Timberwolves book if they want to move to the next level. Sexton shared these thoughts when he joined the Come on And the Talk 2 Me podcast.

“The only thing we have to do is figure it out together. Ultimately, we have to figure it out together. The continuity comes off the field. Going out together, you know what I mean. Going out to eat, going out, getting back up, it doesn’t matter. Doing things like that is what brings guys together, like, in Minnesota. Man, this team eats together. Kat [ Karl Anthony Towns] get all these guys together. Hang out together [and] go to different games. They do it together, so you started to see if you can trust me off the pitch, I know on the pitch it will be easy.” –

Continuity hasn’t been easy for a franchise that has no clear direction. Even though Sexton is coming off a marginal All-Star season, it’s still unclear whether he fits into Utah’s long-term plans. His contract expires after the 2025-26 season, and based on his recent performance, the Jazz will have to shell out big bucks to keep him in Salt Lake City.

Despite the uncertainty, Sexton still has a positive outlook on some of the pieces already in place. Sexton acknowledged the veteran presence currently on the roster and believes the Jazz are headed in the right direction.

“I feel like the future is still bright. The future is definitely bright. We had a bunch of good draft picks last year. That last draft was unbelievable. Right now, we still have pieces from last year. We had me, JC [Jordan Clarkson]Lauri [Markkanen], [and] “John Collins.”

Time will tell if the Jazz can beat the bookmakers’ projections to start the season for the third straight year. Bookmakers are projecting Utah’s over/under win total to be 29.5 games this season. If those projections come to fruition, the Jazz would find themselves in a tough spot. It would be another year without a postseason game, as well as a late draft pick in the lottery.

Regardless, the season won’t be long in coming and Jazz fans will soon have some answers. We know that Sexton won’t be a part of the Tank team and will want to be fully invested in maximizing Utah’s win total.
