The Phoenix Suns are in a unique situation. Since his arrival, new owner Mat Ishbia has made aggressive choices, both in terms of the roster and the coaching staff. Despite this, the first full season under his leadership has not gone as planned. Even with three NBA superstars, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, the team has only managed to reach the 6th place.
The Suns continued to struggle in the playoffs, where they were eliminated in the first round. Heading into the next season, the team remained relatively unchanged, with the exception of the underrated acquisition of Tyus Jones. During the offseason, Ishbia stressed that the Suns would give their core another chance.
However, if the season doesn’t get off to a good start, changes might be necessary. The most popular speculation would be a trade involving Durant, but what if the Suns could keep the KD-Booker duo intact and trade their new star instead?
Why Bradley Beal Could Make Sense for the San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are well-positioned to take a risk next season. As Victor Wembanyama continues to develop, the Spurs can take their time building the team around him. His growth is critical to their future and they are fully committed to his success. To help with his development, they brought in veteran and former MVP candidate Chris Paul.

While Paul can still run an offense with precision, his leadership and veteran instincts could elevate Wembanyama’s game. Plus, his experience could also be key to developing this year’s lottery pick, Stephon Castle. But why stop there?
Adding Bradley Beal to the roster could double the Spurs’ efforts to support Wembanyama. Just two seasons ago, Beal was averaging 30 points per game for the second straight year. His presence on the roster could create space and opportunities for the French phenom to flourish. Additionally, Beal’s experience could be invaluable to younger players, like Castle and the reigning Rookie of the Year, helping them hone their offensive skills.
By the time San Antonio is ready to compete at a high level, Beal will likely be nearing the end of his prime, allowing the Spurs to free up a max contract slot. To make the deal more attractive, Phoenix could add a couple of second-round picks, further bolstering San Antonio’s draft assets.
Why would the Suns be interested?
Aside from Wembanyama and Castle, few Spurs players are untouchable, which presents an opportunity for the Suns. Phoenix has plenty of offensive power between Durant and Booker, but it lacks the key players needed to build a complete roster. That’s where a trade with San Antonio could be beneficial.
NBA TRADE NEWS AND RUMORS: Bradley Beal, Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs: Latest News
The recent addition of Harrison Barnes would be welcome news for the Suns. Keldon Johnson could also be a good addition. Last season, Johnson’s role with the Spurs diminished, with just 27 starts compared to 63 the year before.
His reduced touches, reduced shot attempts and reduced playing time have lowered his stock with the team, but he remains a solid shooter with defensive potential, two qualities the Suns desperately need. To match salaries, San Antonio could include Julian Champagnie in the trade.
